Beauty and Solitude

“Beauty is the illumination of your soul.”

“There is a wonderful welcome within. Meister Eckhart illuminates this point. He says that there is a place in the soul that neither space nor time nor flesh can touch. This is the eternal place within us. It would be a lovely gift to yourself to go there often — to be nourished, strengthened, and renewed. The deepest things that you need are not elsewhere. They are here and now in that circle of your own soul. Real friendship and holiness enable a person to frequently visit the hearth of his solitude; this benediction invites an approach to others in their blessedness.”

Mystical Practices

“… practices integral to the mystical life involve the relations among believers as they aid each other on the path to God. Christian theology teaches that the primary guide of the spiritual life is the Holy Spirit given to each believer at baptism, but the primacy of the spirit does not negate the role of secondary guides, skilled and wise persons more advanced in the mystical life who share their wisdom to help others… Among the Celtic monks spiritual advisors were known as “soul friends”, a reminder that at least some of this advice was based not just of the formal relationship of priest and layman, but upon a deep inner affection and true “spiritual friendship” between two persons who saw their love for each other as grounded in their love for God.”

Serenity Prayer

God grant me the
Serenity to accept the things
I cannot change;

Courage to change the things I
can; and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time.

Listen to God say “I love you”

God is not someone who is far away, nor is he an inexorable judge… No, he … loves us more than we could ask to be loved. God, the creator of the universe, the person who made all things out of nothing, loves us. He wants to care for us, share his divine life with us, and bring us into perfect union with him for all eternity.

This truth is basic to our whole spiritual growth. We know with our minds that God loves us, but we must also be convinced in our hearts so that we can respond to his great love.
