Episode 1: Charity
Some say Saint Giorgio is the reincarnation of the Rabbi Hillel, others say that Saint Giorgio doesn’t exist, that he is a spirit, a Golem to spread love and heal the sick and needy.
He is very poor, and his only property is what he carries with him. People have given him these things. No one knows where he sleeps. They ask, is he homeless? No one is sure, after the day he disappears.
You could talk to him. Saint Giorgio is chaste and celibate, has never married, and has never laid with a woman. I have asked him these things and he has told me.
He is made of love though. He begs for his food, yet he has never been seen eating. Some say when someone gives him food, he gives it away to someone who needs it more than him, and the Lord puts pristine meals directly into his stomach. When I asked him, he said “The Lord provides… the Lord always provides.”
I brought him a meal. He humble thanked me. “Will you eat this?” I asked. “You are me, he is me, she is me, we are all one, yes I will eat this.” He replied mysteriously.
“What are your teachings?” I asked him when I met him on the side of the road. He looked ragged, yet he smelled nicely, like he had just bathed. He has a bright presence and likes to talk, sharing his enthusiasm about The Almighty.
“I have many teachings, yet none of them are mine. I am a mere vehicle in which The Almighty speaks through. I believe in charity, in sharing The Almighty’s love, and The Almighty is loving and forgiving. The Almighty wants goodness for us all. Have you ever read the Bible, the Holy book?” He asked me. “Yes… I think of it as a guide to living.” He replied “Yes, the Bible is that, it is a guide. There is much to the Bible, yet in summary, it tells us to be kind and honest with our neighbors, to be loving and to have charity for all. We are all neighbors, all brothers and sisters, and should be kind to one another. There is a verse that is written something like this: For I know well the plans I have for you and they are for your success and happiness. Come back tomorrow and I will tell you my teachings. I am hurting, and my back needs a rest… I am going to sit.” He said.
So I left that day and came back the next.
“Charity is my mission.” He told me. “Charity is giving to someone less fortunate than you. Everyone goes through phases in their lifetime. Some are poor, some are rich. Sometimes people need help, and I have vowed to live poorly, without any essential possessions. I am at the mercy of the world. I give myself to the world, I have faith and trust in my brothers and my sisters, the Lord provides, the Lord always provides. So today I will teach you my teachings… first is Charity. Giving and then giving, and then giving again and again and again and again. We always have something to give. Yesterday you gave me a meal, today I give you words. These are just words. I am no saint. I am just a poor man.” Yet he was a saint. “I try to always follow the Commandments. I read the Holy Book as a guide. I read the Torah and the New Testament of Jesus Christ the Savior. He died for you, and he died for me, because we are imperfect and we are sinners, just living in this world. Is that the nature of life I ask Yahweh!? Sometimes I yell out to him to reach him! My Lord, Almighty! Please, please, let me understand Lord. Are we all sinners? The Lord spoke to me. The Lord said, Yes my son, we are all sinners. So there are many lessons here. We have to repent, and it is true, good cannot exist with evil, it is one or the other, yet how will we defeat evil!? It is through example! We have to live lovingly, with mercy and forgiveness, even forgiving ourselves! Yahweh is a loving and forgiving Almighty Omnipotent Father, and understands us… even more so than we understand ourselves sometimes. That is my lesson for you today friend. Charity… we always have something to give.”
